About Level8

Founded in 2008, Level8 is a premium luggage brand based in New York, combining style and convenience to create an elevated travel experience for adventurers worldwide.

What makes Level8 stand out?

I love that Level8 actually designs their luggage with the needs of real travellers in mind. With modern, innovative designs, impressive durability, ultra-smooth wheels, and organized interiors, their luggage stands out from the average suitcase. And it’s not just suitcases – their backpacks and accessories are just as high-quality.

Award-Winning Luggage

Level8 is even recognized worldwide for its modern design and reliable performance. Their luggage is so good that it has earned prestigious awards, including a Red Dot Design Award and an iF Design Award. They also received a Newsweek Readers’ Choice Award for their Voyageur suitcase collection, which I’ll be taking a closer look at in this Level8 luggage review.

Level8 Voyageur Suitcase Review – Why I Think It’s Worth It

Level8 offers an excellent range of durable and stylish suitcases, and the Voyageur Collection quickly caught my eye. It seemed it would make packing and traveling easier and more enjoyable, and I can confirm it does!

After testing the Voyageur suitcase for this Level8 luggage review, I see why it’s so popular. It’s actually Level8’s ‘Best Pick’ option!

Here’s a look at the sizes, colours and features that make the Voyageur shine.

Level8 Voyageur Luggage: Sizes

The Level8 Voyageur suitcase range comes in multiple sizes, from carry-on to large check-in. I have the 20″ and 28″ – an excellent size combination for different types of trips.

Having both sizes makes packing really convenient. I can use them together (the matching set looks amazing!), or just opt for the smaller suitcase when I’m on short or budget-friendly style trips.

If you prefer a slightly smaller or larger check-in suitcase, the Voyageur is also available in 26″ and 30″.

But what colours can you get? Let’s take a look.

Level8 Voyageur Luggage: Colours

I got my hands on the navy Voyageur set, and not only does it look classy, it also hides scratches (even the best luggage can’t fully avoid them!) and matches most outfits – look good, feel good!

The Voyageur suitcases also come in black 🖤, dark olive 💚, a gorgeous two-tone celadon-grey 💚🩶, and a bold yellow-and-black combo 💛🖤. Along with the navy 💙, these colours give you the option to blend in or stand out – there’s a Voyageur colour for you, whatever your vibe!

🩷GIRLY TIP: I’d love to see pink thrown into the mix – Level8’s only pink option is in the Luminous Textured Collection.

Standout Features of Level8’s Voyageur Luggage

Stylish, Durable Design

I’ve had suitcases fall apart mid-trip before, and I can assure you, it’s no fun! A super durable suitcase, like Level8’s, is essential – especially if you travel frequently or take longer trips (like me!).

I’ve always opted for hard-shell over soft-shell suitcases, preferring the extra protection – and the water resistance is welcome (I don’t want my suitcase getting wet before even leaving the country – Scotland is rainy!). The Level8 Voyageur is hard-shell – tick!

Made from Makrolon® polycarbonate, a premium material used for hard-shell suitcases, the Voyageur is designed to withstand the impact of travel. Not only is the suitcase durable, it’s stylish too. The deeper, boxier shape gives it a more unique look than most. As soon as I took it out of the box, I could tell it was the most premium suitcase I’ve ever owned!

💰Tip: If you love the look and durability of the Voyageur but want a more budget-friendly option, check out the Luminous Textured Collection
The matching set is excellent value if you want both sizes!

It’s built to last and looks good, but can its moves keep up?

– Easy Maneuverability

Level8 really lets your suitcase ‘roll’ with you thanks to impressively smooth gliding wheels and an innovative handle design.

🔄360° Spinner Wheels

The 360° Spinner Wheels are a top feature of Level8’s luggage. Honestly, when I first got the suitcase I couldn’t stop spinning and rolling it around – it fully moves with you, if not faster! It’s the most glide-y suitcase I’ve maneuvered. Plus, Level8’s wheels handle cobblestones significantly better than many – a must when exploring places such as Europe’s Old Towns or the U.K’s waterfronts, which I like to do!

✊Grab Handles

The larger Voyageur suitcases have the usual top and side handles, plus a bonus front handle. I find it handy for maneuvering the suitcase into the boot of my small car (though it’s not super necessary!).

🧳Wide Telescopic Handle

The Voyageur suitcase has a wide telescopic handle that’s made from aluminium alloy, meaning it’s strong, comfortable, and built to last. This handle ups the suitcase game in more ways than one, and just might be my favourite feature!

The wide handle means:

  • The suitcase doesn’t tip over as easily – another win for cobbles and uneven terrain! As someone who tends to hop on public transport and walk to my accommodation over taking a taxi, I appreciate this!
  • Steering the suitcase is easier – helpful when navigating narrow and busy streets.
  • It’s easy to just reach out and grab the handle (and with two hands if you wish!).
  • Your carry-on backpack can rest on the suitcase without blocking the handle, or you can put your backpack straps around it without the backpack falling all over the place.
Downside: If you have a backpack with a suitcase sleeve, it won’t fit over the handle.
  • Extra packing space!!!

For me, the real gem of the handle is that last point – what it means for inside the suitcase. So, time to dive in.

Voyageur Suitcase Interior Features

Inside, the suitcase impresses just as much – maximized space and notable compartments get bonus points from me!

↔️Wide Handle Maximizes Packing Space

As a sporty gal, I’m always bringing extras like running shoes even on the shortest of trips – and the Voyageur’s interior makes packing them a lot easier. Why? Because of the wide-handle design – the bars run down the sides, leaving the packing area flat and unobstructed. There is more usable packing space!!

While I don’t notice the advantage as much in my 28″ suitcase since it’s already so big, it’s a game-changer for the 20″. The handle bar intrusion on small suitcases is a big reason I always preferred a backpack as carry-on, but now I don’t have that issue. Since using this one, I don’t think I could opt for a small suitcase that doesn’t have this design!

🧳Compartments & Organization
Zipped compartments

Both sides of the Voyageur are zipped compartments, unlike my previous suitcase, which had a compression strap on one side. Everything stays neatly in place, it looks good, and there’s no risk of items spilling out if opened in a hurry.
But I can’t quite decide if this is a true bonus – you also can’t just half-open the case and grab something quickly. And for some reason, I kind of miss the compression strap.

Waterproof pocket

On one side, there are also two zip pockets. The best thing? One’s waterproof! I like this for putting my wet swimwear in if I have a late-in-the-day flight home, or for storing liquids (prevents accidental leakage over everything!).

Divider

The check-in sizes have a divider in one side of the main compartment. I’d never seen this before in a suitcase, and while it’s not essential, it’s a nice extra organization tool (if not needed, you can fold it down).

Speaking of organization, Level8 also sent me their Packing Cube Travel Set (4-pack).

📦 Level8 Packing Cubes Review

The airport security man called my packing ‘ninja-packing’ when he saw everything arranged perfectly in packing cubes – he was impressed! And if you’ve never used them, once you do, you won’t look back!

If you want packing cubes that actually last, check out Level8’s here →

Highlights of Level8 Packing Cubes:

  • Perfect fit + smart look: The 4-pack completely fills the 20″ Voyageur, or one side of the 28″ (with a little space to spare!), all while blending in seamlessly with the interior.
  • Resilient fabric: A big upgrade from the budget ones I had been using, which ripped after a few trips.
  • Water repellent: Ideal if using them in a backpack that can easily get wet. I sometimes take the smaller ones in my day-pack when hiking – keep things protected!
  • Built-in compartments: One cube even has compartments in it – I use it for toiletries.
  • Detachable organization patches: I love using these to label my cubes – keeps everything organized and easy to find. I swap them around depending on what I’m packing where.

The downside? A bit pricey, but much better quality than cheap ones!

Travel Safety – TSA Lock

As a solo traveller, I often stay in hostel dorms and use Level8’s integrated TSA lock to secure my suitcase without needing an extra padlock. If I’m in a hotel, I also use it when leaving my suitcase in the luggage room. No need to worry about my luggage while I go out exploring!

But the TSA Lock is best known for keeping your suitcase secure in the airport, and preventing lock damage if inspection is needed.

Level8’s TSA lock is hassle-free to use: easy to set up, quick to lock/unlock on the go, and no stress about losing a key!

Level8 Shipping and Delivery

Level8 luggage is available worldwide, with free shipping to the U.S., Canada, and Europe (including the U.K.), typically arriving in 3–7 days.

I was impressed by how fast mine arrived! The suitcases also come in a bag – do keep hold of this as it’s great for storing them between trips.

Level8 Luggage Warranty

Even high-quality luggage can hit a roadblock (or an airport mishap!).

With Level8, durability shouldn’t be an issue. If anything does go wrong, the lifetime warranty has you covered.

Is Level8 Luggage Worth Buying?

High-quality luggage is worth buying – no one wants to be replacing their suitcase often! And Level8 luggage fits that premium vibe. It keeps your belongings safe and secure (hey, Level8 hard-shell cases!), makes packing hassle-free with smart interior compartments, and helps you glide through your travels thanks to ultra-smooth wheels – that sounds like the Voyageur!

So, is the Level8 Voyageur the best pick for you, as it is for me?

The Level8 Voyageur is worth the investment, especially for frequent or long-term travelers who value quality and smart design. It’s not cheap, but neither was my Osprey backpack – over the years I’ve learned reliable, durable gear is worth it.

For someone like me who always crams in as much as possible the wide handle – which maximizes interior space – is a huge win! Its sleek, boxy design, effortless maneuverability, and clever inside compartments come together to make a suitcase that stands out.

Hopefully this Level8 Luggage review helped you decide if (and why) it’s worth upping your suitcase game to the Voyageur, or perhaps another of Level8’s durable suitcases!
